SnagIt Screen Capture and Sharing
Spotlight on Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVPAs a Microsoft Excel MVP, Jon Peltier reaches out to the Microsoft community, lending a technical hand when needed. He is also the owner of Peltier Technical Services. SnagIt is a very well built utility, and I find it extraordinarily useful in my programming. It's so easy to put together screenshots of the forms I'm building, either for me to mark up for changes, or to send to a client. And it helps with my Web site, too. - >Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Mr. Peltier uses SnagIt to extend his productivity within other programs. For instance, he uses it as an add-in with Microsoft Office products such as Excel. He said, "You folks have seamlessly integrated SnagIt into Excel. I like the way it works – having it in the toolbar is so convenient." Discovering this feature was a particularly positive experience for Mr. Peltier. He said, "Imagine my surprise (and joy!) when the first image I captured automatically appeared in the document without my having to copy and paste it. If it saves only 10 seconds per image, it still saves 15 or 20 minutes in an evening of work." He uses SnagIt to capture windows or regions of the screen, both as images and for the text. He said, "These screen captures are useful for building documentation for my clients, for my own reference while I'm programming, and for creating graphics for my Web page." Since he creates a lot of tutorials for his site, he finds SnagIt useful in that he can quickly show his readers what they need. For instance, he said, "If I'm doing a project for a client and he wants documentation, I make a PowerPoint file using the screenshots. SnagIt's really good for that – I show what the menu looks like, I use the PowerPoint SnagIt add-in, I activate the menu and pop the image into PowerPoint." His use of SnagIt also sometimes is adapted by his clients. He recently gave some visual documentation to a client who was giving a presentation. Mr. Peltier said, "He liked the way the screenshots looked on the slides, so he built them right into his presentation!" Up until a year ago, Mr. Peltier used a different screen capture program. He said, "It was handy . . . but it wasn't nearly as flexible and powerful as SnagIt." He commented, "SnagIt is a very well built utility, and I find it extraordinarily useful in my programming. It's so easy to put together screenshots of the forms I'm building, either for me to mark up for changes, or to send to a client. And it helps with my Web site, too." "Thanks, and continued congratulations on a fine piece of software," he finished.
