Thanks to everyone who responded to last month's poll asking where you do research before buying a piece of software.
The results are in. It looks many of you, like me, form your own opinion by downloading a free trial and taking it for a test drive. It really is hard to beat firsthand experience! Many also consult reviews from fellow users, published experts, and rely on personal recommendations.

As for sources of expert reviews, the usual suspects were well represented, with CNET/Download.com, PC World, and PC Magazine getting the most mentions. Some interesting niche sources also turned up, like Windows Secrets Newsletter (for IT pros) and the Donation Coder forum (shareware).
Since user reviews and ratings ranked highly, I'll take this opportunity to remind you that the free SnagIt accessory area on our website now supports user ratings and comments. So if you get a moment, please stop by and rate your favorite (or least favorite) outputs and stamp sets. Others in the SnagIt-using community will thank you!
We've got a shorter-than-normal newsletter this time around—will be back with the usual content lineup next month.

Here's another travel-related tip, this time from Bradford Benn, business development manager at Crown International (a manufacturer of power amplifiers and microphones). Bradford writes,
I travel quite a bit for work, and one of the things I do to save time at the airport is to print my boarding pass at the hotel ahead of time. However with some airlines, the time at which you print the boarding pass or check in impacts your place in the queue. This queue could be the boarding order (in the case of Southwest Airlines), or the queue for upgrades or flight changes (on an airline like United). So one of the challenges is being able to check in online, and print out the boarding pass at that moment.
I use the SnagIt printer to get around not being at a location with a printer, or even if I just want to do the check in from the comfort of my hotel room. I simply print to the SnagIt printer, and then I can save the boarding pass for printing as an image or PDF. When convenient I then take the file down to the hotel lobby on a USB memory stick (thumbdrive) and print it there.
Using a broadband card in the laptop, I have done this check-in trick while sitting in a car and someone else is driving, too!
Who knew that the SnagIt Printer would be used in so many clever ways. Thanks for the tip, Bradford!
