Choosing a Task Logger

Morae Observer provides support for one or multiple computers to connect over a network to a computer running Recorder. This flexibility allows your entire team to observe the screen and camera video and hear the audio of the user, streaming from the Recorder computer.

Anyone logged into an Observer computer can add markers during recording complete with text notes, but only one Observer is designated as the task logger. Only the task logger can mark the start and end of tasks.

Define the task logger in Recorder. You cannot designate the task logger in Observer.

Who should be the task logger?

There are two options when defining the task logger.

  • First Observer connected
Use this option if you only have one Observer or everyone connecting to the session could log tasks.
If the task logger disconnects Observer from the session, intentionally or not, the next Observer who connected automatically becomes the task logger.
  • Designated Observer
Use this option if you know exactly who you want to log the tasks.
If the designated task logger disconnects Observer from the session, whether intentionally or not, no one else can log tasks. If the task logger re-connects, he or she can again log tasks.
  • The task logger name must match the name entered in Observer. For example, if you enter only a first name in the Recoding Details and the Observer enters a first and last name, they will not be designated as task logger.

Designate the Task Logger

Choose to have the first Observer connected as the task logger or designate a specific task logger by name.

  1. In Recorder, click on the Modify Recording Details button, found near the bottom middle of the window.
  2. The Recording Details dialog box appears. Select the Capture Options tab.
  3. If it is not selected, check the Allow Observers option.
  4. Select either the First Observer connected is the task logger or Designate the task logger. If you designate a task logger, you must enter a name.

The task logger name must match the name entered in Observer.

  5. Click OK.

Do you have Morae?
