Teacher Submitted Lesson Plan: Screen Captures

Thank you to Elizabeth Nilsen of Cape Elizabeth High School. Originally developed for SnagIt version 7.2.

"The following lesson plan on using the SnagIt capture feature was written for a Computer Applications class. It is an unleveled high school course (grades 9-12), so students from all grade levels are enrolled. I actually use this same plan in most of my classes. SnagIt is the first application I teach them, because it is so useful throughout the semester as we complete other projects. Students love it and are impressed with the range of options available and the varied ways they can enhance their captures."

Lesson Plan Title: Screen Captures

General Goals: Learn how to use SnagIt screen capture software

Specific Objectives: Understand screen capture

Required Materials: Computer

Step-by-Step Procedures:

Open: SnagIt, Word, Internet Explorer

Assignment: Using this web site - http://www.webreference.com/graphics/column32/ - create a one-page document that illustrates each of the following SnagIt captures:

  • image capture
  • text capture
  • object capture
  • freehand capture (under Shapes)
  • any shape capture

1. Set your output to clipboard so you can paste your captures into Word.

2. Label each capture using the paint tools in the SnagIt preview window. (This will not work on the text capture!) See example below:

3. Experiment with the SnagIt preview window tools – check out this list and circle the ones you have tried. Put at least four examples of them in the Word document as well and label.
